ある情報はある人たちの生存権をも脅かしうるということなんだな
だから彼らは見たくないものを見ないようにする
それは怠惰でもなんでもなくて
全身全霊をかけて自らの生存権を守り抜くための行為なんだ
そう見方を変えてみると
随分と有効な対処法が見えてくるのかもしれない
それが何も日本人に限った話でないことは
昨今の世界情勢を見ていても明らかであろう

世界から恐れられ高度経済成長を産んだ
命知らずのサムライスピリッツは消えてしまったわけだ
それはきっと功罪両面あると思うよ

自己犠牲を賛美するつもりは毛頭ない
全体主義や同調圧力は大嫌いだ
だが自己保存の抽象度が下がり過ぎると
人間としての美学が欠落する恐れがある
結果として孤立主義は権力を外部に過剰に委託することとなり
警察国家が成立してしまいかねないのだ
しかも精神性を伴わぬハリボテの国家なのだ

It seems certain information can pose a threat to one’s very right to exist. That is why people avert their eyes from what they do not wish to see. This is not a matter of laziness; it is a desperate act of self-preservation, a way to defend their life with every fiber of their being.

If we shift our perspective in this way, perhaps more effective countermeasures will come into view. And it is clear from the current state of global affairs that this phenomenon is by no means unique to the Japanese.

The “fearless Samurai spirit” that once struck awe in the world and birthed the era of rapid economic growth has vanished. I believe there are both merits and demerits to that loss.

I have absolutely no intention of glorifying self-sacrifice. I despise totalitarianism and the pressure to conform. However, when the “level of abstraction” regarding self-preservation drops too low, we risk losing our human aesthetics. Consequently, isolationism leads to an excessive delegation of power to external authorities, which could give rise to a police state—a hollow, “cardboard” nation devoid of any true spiritual depth.
